Fathers & Sons Outing

So I just got back from the campgrounds and April wanted me to post the experience...

We are only planning on staying for the nightly activities because we have other plans on Saturday, so as soon as Mason and I arrived we started to play in the camp fire. As you can imagine, he liked waving around sticks that smoked.

Of course dozens of kids screaming and running through the trees entertained him as well, which only lasted a few minutes because we were quickly attacked by small balls of hail and a lingering rain storm. Although this just gave us time to consume lots of marshmellows!

The rain stopped just in time for the fireside, the speaker did a great job of involving the youth and getting cheers from the audience which Mason loved to participate by clapping and yelling. During introductions, a quick survey was taken for fun to see who had been coming to the camp for the most years, who was the old person there and Mason won for The Youngest!

While goofing around, one of the youth noticed that Mason wasn't effectively throwing a rock. So the youth tried helping Mason swing his arms really hard and accidently loosing his balance and Mason fell on his face. Because it was past his bed time he started crying so I instantly put his head on my shoulder and took him away from the crowd to calm him down. Within a few minutes I hear him chopping on something like ice...to my surprise he had a mouth full of tiny rocks. After using my finger to remove all of them out of his mouth, I next moved to his nose and think I got all the pebbles out.

We'll find out in the morning if he still has any other hidden souvenirs from his first wilderness experience!
