Christmas Eve

Christmas Eve was much different for us this year as we stayed in NY to celebrate with our small little family. We of course were sad that we could not be with all of our families, but it was nice to start our own traditions and memories now that the kids are getting older.

Mason was so much fun this year, really getting into the Christmas spirit. He helped me make cookies for our friends and neighbors. He loved watching Christmas movies and figured out who Santa Claus is (he even called this big guy with a beard Santa while we were at a restaurant! haha) Most importantly we tried to reinforce the true meaning of Christmas and tried to teach him about baby Jesus being born.

We had a nativity out for him to play with and he knew Mary, Joseph, baby Jesus and "the other guys" the three wise men. I was a little worried that he knew more about Santa than Jesus so on Christmas Eve we watched "The Nativity" as a family. Mason payed attention the whole time, and at the end when Mary is laying with the baby and Joseph comes and kneels by them, Mason ran to get the characters of his nativity and handed us them and called them by name. It was a wonderful spiritual experience. I love my little man so much, and I can't believe how much he has grown up this last year.

After we watched the movie we had our baths early and came down to open one present. Mason still hadn't got what the colorful boxes were under the tree. But he soon figured it out! Here are some pictures of the kids:

Wondering what they are supposed to do with these boxes...
Mason figured it out, Lily is still wondering...
After daddy's help Lily, er, figures it out... well she at least found something else to put in her mouth!

Haha, this is how she was all Christmas morning, chowing down on the wrapping paper! Funny girl!
